Matthew Tull, PhD

Psychologist, HE/HIM/HIS

Licensed Clinical Psychologist: Ohio 07602, authorized to provide teletherapy in 38 states and District of Columbia through PSYPACT

I am a licensed psychologist with extensive experience in the delivery of evidence-based cognitive behavioral treatments for diverse clients with a variety of mental health and behavioral difficulties. I received my doctoral degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston and completed my predoctoral internship at the Boston VA Healthcare System. In addition to being a clinician, I am an active researcher. My research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, and I have published over 200 articles in scientific journals on a variety of topics, including posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, borderline personality disorder, self-injury, and suicidality. Thus, you can be assured that I will stay up-to-date with the scientific literature and only offer interventions that have the strongest support through well-conducted research. I have expertise in the delivery of the following evidence-based treatments: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Behavioral Activation for Depression, Prolonged Exposure, Exposure Therapy and Response Prevention, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Emotion Regulation Group Therapy, and Mindfulness-based Therapy.

I appreciate and respect the diversity of the human experience. I believe that long-lasting and meaningful change is most likely to occur in the context of validation and acceptance. I view the therapist-client relationship as one that is collaborative, and I approach my clients with openness, compassion, and curiosity.  Such a stance ensures that any treatment plan we develop is comprehensive, culturally-sensitive, personalized, and effectively considers the unique experiences and situations that contribute to the challenges you face. Moreover, although it is important that you experience relief from your symptoms, it is even more important that this relief is in service of helping you build the meaningful life you want to live.

I provide teletherapy. This format offers a great degree of flexibility and often helps people find time to fit therapy into their busy schedules. Most treatments that have traditionally been delivered in person can be effectively delivered through teletherapy, and teletherapy typically looks the same as therapy that occurs in person. There is also evidence that teletherapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. I look forward to working with you.
