Julie Woulfe, PhD
PSYCHOLOGIST, SHE/HER/HERS
Licensed Counseling Psychologist: New York (022314), Rhode Island (02289), and Massachusetts (10631), authorized to provide teletherapy in 41 states and the District of Columbia through PSYPACT.
I’m a licensed psychologist with ten years experience working with adults from a wide range of identities and backgrounds across a range of settings including outpatient medical centers, VA, college mental health, and private practice. I have worked in higher education settings as a clinician and supervisor, and have expertise guiding emerging adults through the transition to college and the particular challenges of navigating their mental health through college. I have advanced training in trauma-informed and trauma-focused treatment. I also have expertise and am engaged in research on LGBTQIA+ health, including promoting wellness for bisexual, queer, and pansexual people and transgender, non-binary, gender-expansive people.
WHAT I OFFER
I love this work because I get to see people’s capacity to make changes in their lives so that they feel more able to respond to challenges and feel more connected to themselves and what they care about in life. I have experience in integrating approaches (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy) that offer structured, active, and goal-oriented strategies, with approaches (relational, humanistic, cultural, social-justice oriented) that focus on deepening your understanding of and ability to navigate your internal world, relationships, contexts, and systems.
MY APPROACH
Our work together is a collaboration. I want to get to know you as a whole person and make sure we are aligned on what your goals are for therapy. I see my role as taking my training and experience in evidence-based principles of change and helping you try them out to see which of these tools, along with your innate strengths and skills, can help you make the changes you want. This could involve better understanding your relationship to your emotional life and your thoughts, and experimenting with new ways to respond when you experience unhelpful thought patterns or very strong and challenging feelings. I respect that each person’s histories, experiences, cultural identities, class backgrounds, and needs shape the best ways to use this information effectively.
